Purely Painting
Expectations-Students will:
– identify the three pairs of complementary colours (red/green, purple/yellow, blue/orange)
– describe how artists may use texture to represent or to evoke an emotional response (e.g., a rough texture to represent strength, anger, or something unpleasant)
Purely Painting Activity 1
Repetitive Shapes on Canvas--Colours Connections--start off by painting squares in various colours, then slowly add outlines of harmonious and contrasting colours and perhaps even a dabble of one of the shades (white, grey, black). This creates a spectacular artwork every time.
Purely Painting Activity 2
Radial Designs Using Nature as our inspiration, draw onto canvas or watercolour paper with permanent fine line black marker. Using primary colours, mix and blend your watercolour paints onto the paper to create secondary and neutral colours. Choose a complimentary colour(s) to paint the background and enhance the painting.
Purely Painting Activity 3
Self Portrait on Canvas Create a self portrait using a monochromatic colour scheme (one colour + incorporating white &/or black to create value) Medium: acrylic paints on canvas
 
 
Fabric Fun
Expectations-Students will:
– recognize and name the warm (red, orange, yellow) and cool (purple, green, blue) colours, and describe their emotional impact (e.g., a warm colour scheme may make people feel warmer)
– recognize and name the secondary colours of pigment (purple, orange, green)
– describe how the secondary colours can be created by mixing the primary colours
– identify characteristics of a variety of lines (e.g., thick, thin, broken, dotted) as well as pattern and repetition.
 

Fabric Fun Activity 1
Fineliner on Fabric
Learn about symmetry as well as the use and effectiveness of lines while creating a colourful pillow/wall decoration. Choose from Funky Fish, Beautiful Butterflies, or Happy Hearts.

Fabric Fun Activity 2
Tie Dye Wallhanging/T-Shirts Using cotton T-Shirts or fabric, learn to tie dye using primary colours to create secondary colours all while creating cool, psychedelic designs. NB. This is a great gift for Father's Day! MESSY HANDS supplies the T-Shirts.
 
 
 
Multi-Media
Expectations-Students will:
-understand and apply materials, techniques and processes to enhance communication of their experiences and ideas
-describe how different expressive features cause different responses

Multimedia Activity 1
Favourite Things Purse/Pouch- Create your very own personalized pouch/purse/wallet to place all those special things inside. Using clear laminate adhesive select from an assortment of materials such as yarn, fabric, glitter, sequins, gems, etc., to create a wonderful, colourful design. Add another clear adhesive sheet on top. Fold. Tape the sides. Add a Velcro fastener and a button to create a very cool purse/pouch! Fill with your favourite things…or with lots of love for that special person. NB: This is a great project for Mother's Day!!

Multimedia Activity 2:
Transparency Drawings & Mobiles Draw onto a transparency sheet using permanent marker and filling the sheet up completely with the theme you choose to discuss (ex. outer space). Embelish using foam, felt, and sparkly pieces. Staple sides and add string to create a beautiful decoration for the classroom.
Multimedia Activity 3
Burlap Pastel Painting Explore key elements of design--texture, line and colour. Create abstract buildings and landscapes by pulling and manipulating burlap to create holes and lines. Paint a background onto canvas board. Glue your manipulated burlap onto the canvas then shade using pastels. A gorgeous project!
 
 
Super Sculptures
Curriculum Expectations- Students will:
- explore & create various textures
– distinguish between relief and free-standing sculpture
– describe ways in which artists use a variety of tools, materials, and techniques to create texture (e.g. gouging Plasticine/clay)
CHRISTMAS PROJECT: Can create a 3-D Christmas Tree /Snowman decorated with many ornaments! A MESSY HANDS Favourite!!
Super Sculpture Activity 1
Crayola's Model Magic Sculptures This is a fantastic foam based sculpture medium which can be molded to create any 3-D sculpture. Let us show you how to create a very detailed animal landscape: Reptile/ Dinosaur/ Under the Sea themes, Handprint Plaque or a very fancy Mosaic Mirror!
Choose ONE (a, b, or c) per class.
 
A. Islands--Dinosaur Island /Insect Invasion /Sea-scape (This is considered one project. Students will decide on their theme the day of the project.

Super Sculpture Activity 2
Clay Sculptures Poke, Pinch & Pound your clay! Using your hands as your best tools, create a 3-D sculpture-a pinch pot, a coil vessel from Ancient Greek times, or a sculpture (bust) of yourself using your MESSY HANDS! 3D Christmas Trees are also a big hit to create during the Christmas Season.

Super Sculpture Activity 3
Relief with Plastilina Using a base such as canvas board or a wooden Initial, use your wax-based clay to create abstract designs incorporating complimentary colours and harmonious colours as well as creating texture using various tools.
Initials must be pre-ordered at least 2 weeks prior to our visit.
Super Sculpture Activity 4:
Ceramic Use a fineliner to create a design by drawing onto your 8" ceramic bisque plate. Paint using acrylic paints.
 
Wonderful Wood
Expectations- Students will explore various textures and the art of placement while learning about primary & secondary colours.
